Leading mobile money transfer service provider Safaricom has notified partners and clients of a scheduled Mpesa services outage, informing partners that customers will receive error messages.
The giant telco in an e-mail sent to business partners and developers on Wednesday afternoon indicated that the outage is meant to permit for the standard maintenance services by its softaware engineers.
Mpesa services shall be affected for two hours on Saturday June 6, 2020 starting 0100hrs to 0300hrs when the systems aren't on such a lot demand by its customers.
"Every day, M-PESA empowers in excess of 23 million customers, largely driven by the contribution of our partners.To support M-pesa's continued transformation, we will be completing a scheduled system maintenance on Saturday 6th June 2020, between 0100 hours and 0300 hours EAT.
"During the maintenance, there'll be service interruptions and customer consuming API services will get the error message “Service is currently under maintenance”.
"We regret any inconvenience caused during this era of M-PESA unavailability and We are thankful for your continued support," the notice sent on mail reads.
More often that not, during Mpesa system maintenance, all services on devices and on the online are unavailable.
Customers won't be ready to send money, reset pin or enroll for Mpesa services. Simcard registration and and account activation services are going to be affected too.
The maintenance coincided with the much anticipated re-open of the Kenyan economy on Saturday as President Kenyatta is predicted to lift or adjust a number of the restrictions on business operations.
Safaricom had earlier adjusted transaction costs and limits during a bid to cushion Kenyans from the consequences of Covid-19 and encourage cashless transactions.
