Coronavirus global pandemic that has upended the world looks like it is here to stay for a while and the government of Kenya is looking for all possible ways of protecting its citizens from the deadly novel virus.
According to the Star, government is now planning to enforce a 3PM curfew in Nairobi's CBD to reduce congestion and discourage people from going to work as it has been witnessed lately hence increasing the infection rates.
“The government knows well that if it closes the town by 3 pm very few people will go to town, the curfew may also be extended within the estates,” Nairobi County Executive Committee Member for Health Hitan Majevdia was quoted by the Star Newspaper.
Kenya is grappling with the Covid-19 pandemic with 18 counties so far repirting cases but Nairobi is the epicenter of the virus.
The country has so far recorded 607 Covid-19 cases, the highest in the region(East Africa) with 29 fatalities from the virus being reported.
And with Kenyans' continued disobedience Majevda says even after locking up Eastleigh and Old Town, the government will not shy away from putting in place stringent measures to reduce and curb the spread of coronavirus.
I cannot confirm if we will have the 3 pm curfew but I can assure Kenyans that we will have stricter rules to address the pandemic. People are not obeying the government directives. They are washing hands and sanitizing but are not keeping social distance,” he told the Star.
